The usage rate of water-based coatings in Europe has reached 80% -90%, but the usage rate in China is much lower than that in Europe, with a lot of room for improvement. The industry expects that the sales revenue of water-based coatings in the Asia Pacific region will increase to 26.7 billion US dollars in 2024, entering a period of rapid development, with China becoming the main force in the development of water-based coatings in the Asia Pacific region.
The emergence of water-based coatings, represented by water-based paints, is hailed by the industry as the "third paint revolution". However, due to certain differences in performance and high cost compared to traditional solvent based coatings (commonly known as "oil-based coatings"), the application rate of water-based coatings in China is not high. How to improve the performance of water-based coatings and promote their application in China through industry university research cooperation has become an urgent problem to be solved in the industry.
Recently, Shenzhen Shuai Tu Building Materials Co., Ltd. and the Engineering Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences signed a strategic cooperation agreement. The two sides will set up a "joint laboratory for nano functional materials" with the "nano composite water-based coatings" as the starting point of cooperation, to promote water-based coatings to move forward to a high, refined and cutting-edge direction.
In fact, apart from Shenzhen Shuai Tu Building Materials Co., Ltd., a large number of water-based coating production enterprises, including leading enterprises in the industry, are actively cooperating with universities and research institutes to improve their technological level. This indicates that strengthening industry university research cooperation to enhance technological innovation capabilities has become a new trend in the development of water-based coating enterprises.
